About Me
Hi, I’m Gwen! I’m from Portland, OR and have a BA in Anthropology from Trinity University.
I love anthropology. It has been with me throughout my life, even before I officially studied it. Growing up, I was in a Japanese immersion program for nine years. Spending time in Japan with homestays, friends and their families, I not only learned the language but also the culture. Although I didn’t realize it at the time, my first anthropological research project was in eighth grade, when I went to Japan with my school and conducted qualitative and quantitative research in Japanese, ultimately writing and presenting a final project. This experience kick-started my love of learning about different ways of thinking and living.
When I got to college, I was lucky enough to do a variety of rigorous anthropological research. My favorite research method is ethnographic research, as I find it both rigorous and creative. I am skilled at conducting ethnographic research using participant observation, interviews, and even digital observation. For me, anthropology is about learning from people and learning new, creative, and innovative ways of living, thinking, and addressing challenges. I aim to carry these values and my research skills into a career in design anthropology.
